How a crazy idea lead to PhD at MIT?

Who knew a crazy idea like cycling across continents and visiting regenerative farms would lead us to Boston? 😯

It all started with a conversation in Kenya. While we were cycling across three continents, we met a professor Kate Brown from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A year later, inspired by the possibilities, I decided to apply for their PhD program.

Aisha is incredibly honoured to be one of the five chosen for the PhD position at #MIT HASTS. This fall, she will begin a challenging six-year journey studying and working at MIT. Her research will focus on #regenerativeagriculture, Payment for Ecosystem Services, and its impact on #smallscale #farmers in #Kenya.

Cycle to Farms  is a reminder that even the wildest ideas and self-doubt shouldn’t hold you back from pursuing your dreams. We are aware that this new journey is going to be a marathon 🏃🏿‍♀️full of academic challenges and opportunities to connect and learn from and with inspiring individuals in the coming years✨

Here are a few snapshots from our Boston visit, experiencing the energy of the Boston Marathon and exploring the MIT campus for the first time!

With gratitude,

Aisha & Lukas
